Aizawl : The All Mizoram Farmers Union (AMFU) has decided to take earnest effort to produce more food grains in Mizoram saying that all cultivable land would be turned into a paddy fields and step shall also be taken to stress on jhum cultivation.
Convening a press conference at Aizawl Press Club last Saturday, leaders of AMFU declared the coming year 2015 – 2016 as an exclusively for bringing more harvest in food grains. AMFU President Joseph H.Thanzuala said that in earlier days government used to take initiative on this issue and people loyally cooperated with them. In contrary people will now first take step to bring more food grains and government will co-operate them.
AMFU leaders also told media that the organization is planning to celebrate its 20th anniversary on 12th November at Vanapa hall here in the state capital. The organization has also decided to follow ‘The New Economic Policy’, AMFU leaders told media.
AMFU leaders added that they have already appealed the state government to set up Paper Mill for effective utilization and profitable sale of natural bamboo.
AMFU was established on 12 November, 1994 at Co-operative hall, Babutlang by 74 people. The organization presently has 7 district
headquarters, 15 Sub Divisional Hqrs. and 750 Branches across Mizoram.
